Stanford welcomes muslim chaplain Stanford news reported on june 15 that stanford university has appointed sughra ahmed associate dean for religious life. Ahmed, who most recently served as a greenberg world fellow at yale university, was president of the islamic society of britain. Named muslim woman of the year in the united kingdom in 2014, she will join the campus comunity in the fall. While training at the markfield institute to become a chaptain, ahmed also received a diploma in islamic jurisprodence. She brings to her new post an extensive experience in university chaplaincy, firs at de montfort university (U.K) and then in interfaith work nationwide and the at university of cambridge. She eared her undergraduate degree at birmingham city university and her master of arts degree in islamic studies from loughborough university. She is fluent in urdu, punjabi and hindi. While working as a senior programs manager at the woolf institute in the center for policy and public education in cambridge, england, she designed and delivered research and training on faith, belief, communities, integration and other topic. At the yale greenberg world fellow program, ahmed has been part of a group of 16 mid-career global leaders brought to yale for a leadership development program that is part of the university's jackson institute of global affrairs.
